Westport Santa Dash 5K: Wrapping Up the Year on the Run – Kansas City, MO

We wrapped up our race year yesterday in the most festive way possible at the Westport Santa Dash 5K – and it was exactly the kind of send‑off we hoped for.

The temperature hovered around 31 degrees, which definitely made the air feel extra crisp, but we layered up and leaned into the holiday spirit. I went all in with a full Santa suit and still managed to push for a solid finish, crossing the line in 26:07 – about an 8:25 per mile pace over the 3.1‑mile course. The beard had a mind of its own, so it ended up becoming less of a beard and more like chest hair.

William ran alongside his cousin Katrina and her daughter Marisol, mixing jogging and walking and soaking up the experience together. They finished right around the 40‑minute mark, still smiling and bundled up. Afterwards we celebrated with brunch at one of our favorite local places, Brookside Barrio. Yum!

We were especially looking forward to having more family from Iowa join us this weekend, but health issues changed those plans. While we missed them, we’re already looking ahead to another race where we can try again. After all, we have 26+ opportunities coming up next year!

This final run of 2025 was a great reminder of why we keep showing up: not just for the miles or the times, but for the shared moments, the laughter, our health, the fresh air, and the memories we’re building along the way. We’re already excited about our next runs together – and whatever adventures the new year brings.

Here’s to finishing strong, staying warm, and always finding joy on the run.
