This past month, we’ve been racking up the weekend miles—three races in three weeks!
It started on Saturday, May 31 with the Hospital Hill 10K, a Kansas City classic. Read more about that run here. The following Saturday, we joined the Kansas City Pet Project 5K, and wrapped it all up with the Tonganoxie Library Run the weekend after that.
The Pet Project 5K is one of KC’s most popular races, selling out for the third year in a row. It took place along the streets in Swope Park near KC Pet Project’s campus there. More than 600 runners braved the drizzly morning to support the shelter’s life-saving work.

🏃 Nate clocked an 8:23/mi pace.
🐾 William ran strong with a 10:08/mi pace.

The Tonganoxie Library Run gave us small-town charm and a surprising challenge. The library itself was rebuilt in 2020 on the site of William’s former elementary school—making this race a bit of a hometown throwback. We underestimated the course, assuming Kansas = flat. Instead, a long, steady hill stretched our endurance and kept us honest.

🏅 Nate finished with an 8:46/mi pace and took 3rd in his age group (M30–39).
💪 William came in at a consistent 10:05/mi.
Three races, countless steps, and plenty of post-run coffee later—we’re calling it a successful summer sprint! Next up, we’ll be continuing our summer of runs by participating in Urbandale, Iowa’s William Courtney 5K Run on the 4th of July. Wish us luck!
