On Sunday, April 27, William and I hit the roads at 5:45 am to pick up our packets and take a shuttle to the starting line for the 37th Annual CCVI Trolley Run in Kansas City. It was a little drizzly, a little gray, but that didn’t slow us (or the other 2,315 finishers) down. The 4-mile course wound through some of our favorite neighborhoods — Waldo, Brookside, and the Country Club Plaza — and followed the always-scenic Harry Wiggins Trolley Track Trail. Rain or not, it was a great morning to run.
The Trolley Run isn’t just another race; it’s the largest annual fundraiser for the Children’s Center for the Visually Impaired (CCVI). For more than 70 years, CCVI has been empowering children with visual impairments through specialized education and therapies, helping them reach their full potential. Running this event meant more than crossing a finish line — it meant contributing to a cause that makes a real difference in our community.
Now, on to results. William crushed it, clocking an impressive 10:08/mile pace — his best 4-mile race time in two years and competitive with his recent 5K times despite the longer distance. Huge win! I’m celebrating too: I finished with an 8:19/mile pace, my fastest 4-mile race yet and just two seconds shy of my best-ever race pace of any distance (8:17/mile at the DC Pride Run in June 2023). Not bad for a drizzly Sunday morning!

After the finish line, the post-race “After Bash” was a perfect way to celebrate — with live music, local food and retail vendors, and good vibes all around. We even sampled the alcohol-free Michelob Ultra Zero — and honestly, it wasn’t bad!

Next stop on our running adventures? We’re heading to St. Louis for the 40th Annual Make Tracks Through the Zoo 5K at the St. Louis Zoo! We’ll keep you posted on how it goes over at williamandnate.com/runs.
