Hopping into Spring at the Easter Egg 5k and 10k – Overland Park, KS

This past weekend, William and I celebrated the changing of the seasons by taking part in the Easter Egg 5K & 10K in Overland Park, Kansas. With cool, crisp weather and a mostly flat route, it was a great morning to stretch our legs and log some miles.

Between the two events, 532 runners crossed the finish line, including our crew of five. I tackled the 10K (just over six miles), while William ran the 5K alongside our good friend Emma, her mom Robin, and their friend Trish.

The energy was upbeat and cheerful despite cloudy skies—helped by the promise of getting mimosas after the race.

This race felt especially good for me—not just because I placed 7th in my age group and 30th overall out of 90 runners in the 10K, but because my pace (9:10/mile) is my new personal record (PR) for 10Ks and generally one of my best paces in a while—even better than many of my recent 5Ks. I credit part of that to the brisk morning air (I prefer cooler temps for runs) and the compression sleeve Emma lent me for my knee, which had been giving me some grief lately. (Thank you, Emma!)

William had a solid run too, placing 5th in his age group and 140th overall out of the 442 5K participants.

We really appreciated how smoothly the event was run—from packet pickup to the finish line. The route was easy to navigate, and the volunteers were cheerful and encouraging throughout. It’s always great to see families, friends, and runners of all skill levels come together for a fun, low-pressure event like this.

Whether you’re a seasoned runner or looking for your next themed 5K to try, the Easter Egg 5K and 10K is a great one to add to your spring calendar. It’s festive, mostly flat, and family-friendly—and you just might achieve a new PR yourself.

We’re already hopping toward our next 4-mile race taking place this coming weekend in Kansas City, MO. To follow along with our running adventures or support us in upcoming events, head over to williamandnate.com/runs.
