In December, William and I fully embraced the holiday spirit by participating in not one, but two festive 5K events in Kansas City in the same weekend: the Westport Santa Dash and the Great Santa Run.
The Westport Santa Dash took place on the morning of Saturday, December 14, 2024 in the historic Westport district. The streets were filled with holiday cheer as hundreds of Santas and elves dashed through the area amongst a total of ~650 participants.

Each participant received either a long-sleeve race shirt or a Santa suit, a finisher medal (which doubled as an ornament), and holiday treats. This year, I opted for the suit and William went with the shirt. In retrospect, the shirt would have resulted in less fake beard ending up on my mouth.

The following day, Sunday, December 15, 2024, we joined 600 other participants in the Great Santa Run at Park Place in Leawood. This annual event supported Operation Breakthrough, a cherished Kansas City charity dedicated to helping children living in poverty. We spotted several others who also participated in the previous day’s 5K with us. I enjoyed running through the Park Place area adorned with lights and decor – it was a perfect setting for a festive run.

Looking ahead, we’re excited to continue our running journey with many more events on the horizon. In 2025, we will be able to check off a couple more states in which we’ve participated in a race!
